Magic Moments

 Cade got a hat trick at his soccer game on Saturday. That means he scored 3 goals in one game. He was pretty proud of himself. He only has one practice left and he's sad for it to be over. He's begging to play summer soccer but I think I need a break from the soccer field before fall soccer begins. 

Sage and his guitar. Hearing him play and improve is one of my favorite things. He entered a contest at Christmas and he won 2nd prize in the nation out of all the Childbloom students who entered. It was an amazing accomplishment and we're so proud of him. His guitar teacher is wonderful and Sage loves playing ensembles with other kids. He's talented and we're excited to see how far it takes him. I had Sage's pictures taken on a whim with his guitar and I just couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

 With Cade and Aiden both playing soccer it seems as if I spend all my time sitting at practice. Tom was gone for a few weeks in late April taking care of his mom and dad.  I was definitely feeling the burn of the single parent life since I had to drive the kids to every practice and then sit there for hours. Aiden's team has been practicing for months and this past weekend they had their first tournament. We hadn't seen them compete much with covid restrictions and the team is still in the building phase of getting to know each other, but after watching them play all the hours I sat at soccer seemed worth it. They have improved and become really fabulous. Aiden's foot work continues to look great and his passing has become so accurate. The team won their first 2 games and tied the last game. Because the team they played last had a shut-out (they didn't let the a previous team score) they were awarded a bonus point so they beat Aiden's team by one and went on to the...

 Cade started soccer this season and he is the cutest little soccer player. I told Tom that while we fretted so much when Aiden started soccer about how he was doing and if he getting better, since Cade is our third child we are just enjoying watching him be five and play soccer. He sometimes gets distracted, sometimes kicks the ball the wrong way, he falls down frequently, and he barrels through the pack of kids. We love watching him play and we're so proud of him. He is loving being with all the kids. FINALLY being on the soccer field feels normal because no one is wearing a mask. Tom and I were planning on pulling the boys from soccer if masks were required outside, and THANKFULLY we are playing outside risk free.

 It was 58 degrees today so we took our classroom outside this afternoon. It's probably only fake spring in Minnesota, meaning it is going to get cold and snow again. But, we saw all the signs of spring today...mainly mud. But melting snow and lots of puddles aren't bad things. It was wonderful to be outside and the boys were free to climb and explore. The rocks were slippery with snow so Cade has to wait to climb until Tom can come along. I didn't want to have to call an ambulance out in the middle of nowhere. 

 It's the time of year when everything is just blah. The snow has ceased to be fun. I love the days where it's a bit warmer but they are merely a tease because I know it will snow again. There is nothing to do outside because we are in mud season. We're also in the last two months of school. It's the time of year where I feel like I'm a slave to curriculum instead of the curriculum functioning as the tool it should be. I'm sick of the sound of my voice asking my boys to get their things done. Nothing is exciting, we're just in the last push to get things done and I feel like we're checking off lists instead of learning. Today I even decided that perhaps maybe homeschooling is robbing me of any type of life. It's a full time job and it feels like a lot at times with no paycheck coming in. But, I've lived through March 10 times as a homeschool mom and I know this is just the season. It's par for the course. It will pass. We will get the wind ba...

 Pappy and Marme and Ami, Teddy, and Annabelle all joined us for an afternoon at Seaquest. I honestly didn't even know about this place so it must have come into existence while we were living in West Virginia. It's a tiny indoor zoo but you can touch and feed the animals. It's ingenious actually because not only do you pay admission but you pay to feed the animals. After we left the animals were all well fed. :)
