Literature Fair

The boys participated in the Literature Fair at their coop.  I don't know how people with kids who bring home tons of homework keep up on a consistent basis because it was all I could do to complete a normal school day AND help the boys finish their projects. It probably didn't help that we waited until the last week to start AND Aiden broke his arm that same week. I had to call Tom home from work one day to help me because I was loosing my mind. I'm not totally sure how helpful he was. Tom found a typo on Aiden's board and set about re-doing it because, "We don't give people reason to critique our work." 😕 Considering Aiden did everything himself and typed with a broken arm, I thought it was fine and was going to let it slide. 😉 In the end, they did a great job and we're proud of them. We have 5 or 6 weeks left of school and then no one will be happier for a break than me. Sage read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He's LOVING ...

Sage and His Guitar

Over the summer Uncle Jim told Sage if he learned to play the guitar solo in in Led Zepplin's song Rover, he would buy him an electric guitar. I think Uncle Jim thought this would take Sage awhile.😉 Little did he know, Sage would come home and spend hours in front of youtube with his guitar practicing The Rover. Sage learned the solo and when we went home to Minnesota in February, Uncle Jim made good on his promise. I have Jim giving Sage his guitar on video but I currently have no way to posting video to my blog (I'll figure that out eventually). You'll have to trust me that we're a little amazed at Sage's guitar ability. He plays constantly and he's in love. He has the sweetest relationship with his teacher and playing guitar seems to come naturally for Sage. Sage owes so many thank-yous to his Uncle Jim who is just the sweetest uncle ever. And what's super sweet is Uncle Jim has started taking guitar lessons too so he and Sage were able to play some duet...

For the Love of Cade

Everyday I think to myself, "I've GOT to write down all the cute things Cade says." He makes us laugh each day. Everyday he marches to the beat of his own drum. He's spent a couple days straight wearing mittens (so the wind doesn't make his hands cold), he LOVES dress up, he's still a Mama's boy and I drop him off at preschool on Thursday or AWANA or Wednesdays always crying and the teacher has to pull him off my leg, he says to me when I pick him up, "Mama, I only fussed a little and then I stopped." He's trying to figure out time. Cade asked me, "Mama, what day was I a baby?" I told him he was a baby about 3 years ago. Then he asked, "How old was I 30 seconds ago?" I told him he was 3. And he said, " NO! Mama! How old was I 30 SECONDS ago?" Same answer Cade. 30 seconds ago is actually not very much time in terms of age. Every time he sees a baby at church he says, "Mama! I think that baby is about Teddy...

Beech Fork State Park

We've entered the time of year where I'm feeling the burn of homeschooling. We're working hard to finish strong and be done by the end of April so I don't completely loose my mind. Yesterday after all our books were finished we got in the car and went to the state park. The blue skies and fresh air were exactly what everyone needed. Nature provides the most perfect classroom. Cade dug in the dirt, the boys found shells, and seeds, interesting rocks and sticks and signs that spring is just around the corner. Worm sighting Digging is tiring for boys who are giving up their naps. I'll miss it when the stop making everything into swords. Cade is too big for his trike so he's moving up to a bike and had to get the hang of it.

MinneSNOWta

I think I've had a MinneSNOWta post before. We spent the early part of February with Marme and Pappy and at the cabin. We are always thankful when there is a lot of snow to play with and this year the weather was generous in the snow department. The weekend at the lake we played and played outside. The boys played a lot of broom ball. They had a sledding him that extended from our driveway all the way down to the lake. We rode around on the four wheeler and all and all just had a great time. Someone here in West Virginia commented that they had no idea how we spent so long playing outside without freezing. They had never even purchased snow pants for their kids. I kinda understand because if it snows here it's gone in a couple days. You can imagine how shocked she was when I told her my boots are rated to keep my feet warm down to -32 degrees and I only buy Columbia snow gear for my kids because they do, in fact, need good snow gear to stay warm. It's so fun in the snow whe...

Never a Dull Moment

This weekend is looking quieter than we originally had planned on so I'm going to make it my goal to post lots of back logged updates for the grandmas and grandpas. Fingers crossed. This week has been crazier than I thought so this weekend will be much needed. However, I'm holding onto it loosely because I thought we could relax last weekend but that wasn't the case. Aiden fell at soccer practice and landed hard on his elbow. I'm just learning now that Aiden fell because he was playing against a 15 year old. Tom said when Aiden fell he jumped right back up and kept going and Tom is so very proud of his tough boy. And here I am....on the other side of a week of crazy, being a mama bear and wondering why he was playing against a much bigger kid and thinking being hurt doesn't mean you aren't tough. So, Tom and I had a fun "go 'round'" about that. Neither of us surfaced with a better argument than the other so I'm just counting myself so ver...
