For the Love of Cade

Everyday I think to myself, "I've GOT to write down all the cute things Cade says." He makes us laugh each day. Everyday he marches to the beat of his own drum. He's spent a couple days straight wearing mittens (so the wind doesn't make his hands cold), he LOVES dress up, he's still a Mama's boy and I drop him off at preschool on Thursday or AWANA or Wednesdays always crying and the teacher has to pull him off my leg, he says to me when I pick him up, "Mama, I only fussed a little and then I stopped."

He's trying to figure out time. Cade asked me, "Mama, what day was I a baby?" I told him he was a baby about 3 years ago. Then he asked, "How old was I 30 seconds ago?" I told him he was 3. And he said, " NO! Mama! How old was I 30 SECONDS ago?" Same answer Cade. 30 seconds ago is actually not very much time in terms of age. Every time he sees a baby at church he says, "Mama! I think that baby is about Teddy's age."  Cade was old enough to sign up to play YMCA soccer this spring but when I asked him if he wanted to play he said, "No, mama, I'm too little for that." The truth is, he is too little for that. If he's still crying at AWANA then I don't think he can go to soccer practice. Besides, I think organized sports for kids who are 3 is a little silly. When he's 4 I think it'll be a more realistic option.

Cade adores it when his older brothers play with him, he loves to wrestle with Daddy, he's not above throwing fits but he is giving us hope those might be lessening a little. ;) He LOVES to read and we finished his first chapter book, Elmer and the Dragon, and we're about half way through The Dragons of Blueland. I'm honestly a little shocked at how much he loves them and how well he's listening and understanding.  Cade asks every week to go to the library. He and I usually go alone and then he loves to stop at Starbucks for chocolate milk on the way home. He still sneaks into our bed each night and each night he's super proud of himself as he snuggles in between Tom and I with a little smile on his face. There is still lots of space for Tom but I'm usually practically falling off the bed because Cade sleeps as close as possible to me always with his back up next to me. It's adorable and I'm looking forward to him sleeping all night in his own bed and coming in only occasionally.

Friday night is pizza and movie night. This is how Cade at dinner.
Bedtime stories mean milk and butter toast. Cade's favorite.

Apple Creek

A new year, a new orchard. This year we tried out Apple Creek Orchard and it was a really pretty place. We picked apples, took a hay ride, and the boys had fun with the apple slinger. We were joined by Tom's parents and it feels so good to have them now living close by instead of far away.

Almost to the finish line.

It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid. If Cade is crying, I know he is actually hurt because he never cries ove...
