Lollipop, Lollipop, Oh Lolli Lolli Lolli!

Oh, Lollipop tree. It wouldn't be 4th of July without you. You give such a magical experience. And like always, the harvest was good.

It was 11 0'clock at night before we had managed to wrangle all the kids and have them plant "the stick" and water "the stick" with the special watering cans. But, it was worth it! The tree grew pretty big this year!

Aiden woke up at 6:30 AM and said, "MAMA! Do you think the lollipop tree growed big?" I told him I thought it was still growing and thankfully he went back to sleep for another 90 minutes.

Finally all the kids had eaten breakfast (eggs, since they were about to fill up on sugar) and it was time to check the tree! The branches were heavy with lollies! Assorted ones grew...blow pops, ring pops, tootsie pops, dum dums....no one was disappointed!

Picking the "fruit"

Such a treasure!

Don't ask me how many lollipops Aiden ate that day. You don't want to know.

And here's the annual lollipop song....

1) One fine day in early spring I played a funny trick;

Right in the yard behind our hourse, I planted a lollipop stick.

Then every day I watered it well and watched it carefully;

I hoped one day that stick would grow to be a lollipop tree.

CHORUS:

Ah ha ha, Oh ho ho, what a place to be;

Under my lollipop, lollipop, lollipop, lolli, lolli, lollipop tree.

Ah ha ha, Oh ho ho, what a place to be;

Under my lollipop, lollipop, lollipop, lolli, lolli, lollipop tree.

2) Then one day I woke to find a very lovely sight,

A tree all full of lollipops had grown in the dead of night.

Well, I sat beneath that wonderful tree and looked up with a grin;

And when I opened up my mouth a lollipop dropped right in. (Chorus)

3) Winter came and days grew cold as winter days will do.

And on my tree, my lovely tree, not one little lollipop grew.

From every branch an icicle hung. The limbs were bare as bones.

But when I broke those icicles off, they turned into ice cream cones. (Chorus)

Apple Creek

 A new year, a new orchard. This year we tried out Apple Creek Orchard and it was a really pretty place. We picked apples, took a hay ride, and the boys had fun with the apple slinger. We were joined by Tom's parents and it feels so good to have them now living close by instead of far away.

Almost to the finish line.

 It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

 My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid. If Cade is crying, I know he is actually hurt because he never cries ove...
