Labor Day

Oh, sweet Labor Day! Labor Day is my favorite cabin weekend, even though it also brings a certain sadness with it. There is something about Labor Day...even though the days can be warm (or even hot), something in the air changes. It's not something to be described in words, but mostly felt. Maybe the change is the anticipation of Fall and everything that Fall brings, or maybe it is indeed that the nights are cool enough for a campfire. Whatever it is, Labor Day speaks to me. The boys and I stayed until we couldn't possible stay anymore. We soaked up every last drop of Summer, said a sad goodbye to all our cousins who were starting school, and we drove home on Tuesday morning after a glorious (and somewhat bittersweet) weekend. So, the Summer has officially ended and for that reason we are sad. But Cabin weekends are far from over. There are still pontoon rides to be had, campfires to warm us up on chilly nights, and dare I even say it, ice skating and sledding to keep us occupied this Winter. While I could probably do without the cold and snow during February and March and even April, I LOVE the change of the seasons. We said so long to Summer and all it's bounty, but our hearts are glad that Fall is bringing a crisp new start.
Aiden and Caleb. As they have gotten older they have become buddies. Fun times are in store for these two. They took a little swim in their clothes and they reminded me of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.

Some of the cousins had already gone home. Maddy and Aiden are hiding in the fort. They were all just talking and living out the last moments of our dearly, beloved Summer

Goodbyes are much sadder on Labor Day. Although we will see each other, it won't be almost every weekend like it is during Cabin Season.

All the boats pulled out of the water and in que to be put away. Such a sad sight.

Swimming with clothes on called for the removal of clothes all together. Each baby must have a  picture of cute little buns on the beach. In other news, my 21 month old leaned to ride the power wheel all over the yard. Video to come.

See the Winter has past! The rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the Earth, the season of singing has come!

Until next Summer......

Besides the bare-butt picture of Sage making me laugh, this post almost made me cry. So sad to say goodbye to fun, warmth, family and beauty. Even though I love fall, I hate the end of summer.

Apple Creek

A new year, a new orchard. This year we tried out Apple Creek Orchard and it was a really pretty place. We picked apples, took a hay ride, and the boys had fun with the apple slinger. We were joined by Tom's parents and it feels so good to have them now living close by instead of far away.

Almost to the finish line.

It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid. If Cade is crying, I know he is actually hurt because he never cries ove...
