Fighting the Kangaroo

For several weeks the boys have been dutifully defending their territory and fighting the Kangaroo that has taken over our laundry room. I have chuckled several times over the silliness of the whole situation. For starters, Sage is honest to goodness a little bit scared of the Kangaroo that lives in the laundry room, even though I think he was the one who invented the mysterious Kangaroo. I truly think that something that started out as imaginary has now deeply rooted itself into the boys' beliefs because the battles rage on, the situation grows more complex, and the boys become more convinced. They discuss this imposter Kangaroo as if he really exists and I frequently hear, "Let's fight the Kangaroo!" The ridiculousness of the fact that they are fighting a Kangaroo, not a lion or a bear, but an animal without razor sharp teeth or a might roar, is not lost on me. When I hear their shrieks over the Kangaroo and when they come running upstairs with their weapons in hand scrambling for safety, I hide my laughter every single time. This morning that sneaky and bold Kangaroo moved from the laundry room to the downstairs bathroom which is the boys' hideout and safe haven from the Kangaroo. So, a battle raged. Even though the Kangaroo is still controlling the laundry room, the boys declared themselves the winner because they were able to reclaim their hideout. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
I'll get that Kangaroo once and for all!

If only I was strong enough to actually pull the trigger. :)

Kangaroo, it's time to surrender!

Is the coast clear?

Don't mess with this brave solider!

"Come out with your hands up, Kangaroo!"
(You'd think that huge laundry pile would scare away the Kangaroo. Don't judge me, my house is clean, I'll tackle the laundry today. :) )

I can not get enough of your kids' imagination. Priceless.

Wow if I had known there was a kangaroo living in the laundry I would have been a lot more careful in your house. I know for sure that I will be asking for protection from my 2 brave grandsons next visit!

Apple Creek

A new year, a new orchard. This year we tried out Apple Creek Orchard and it was a really pretty place. We picked apples, took a hay ride, and the boys had fun with the apple slinger. We were joined by Tom's parents and it feels so good to have them now living close by instead of far away.

Almost to the finish line.

It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid. If Cade is crying, I know he is actually hurt because he never cries ove...
