Learning Every Day

 Sage is learning SO much! I love child development. I love watching it happen. It's so intricate yet systematic. If I ever go back and get my Ph.D. (a girl can dream, right?) I'd be hard pressed to get it in child development. Maybe I've noticed the boys' development so much because when I go to work every week I don't see development. At least, not normal development. Every week I pick a target to work on with my sweet little girl and for two pain staking hours that's what we do. What I teach my kids at work is something that typically developing kids don't need to be taught because they absorb it, naturally and normally. I love my kids at work and each day I come home thankful my own kids don't need 40 hours a week of intensive therapy for years and years just to communicate at the most basic level.

Anyway, this week I noticed Sage has developed the ability to compare sizes and generalize them across objects. He said to me this week, "Mama, this table is little. The kitchen table is big." And at breakfast he said, "Mama is bigger than Aiden but I am little." It seems simple but if you know what it looks like when this sort of milestone doesn't develop, it makes you notice when it does. Although Sage still has quite a bit of articulation to perfect in his language (and it's so cute that I don't want to rush it), his sentences have become more complex. In the last week or two he's figured out how to incorporate words like either, or, because, but, and actually. This age is just so. so. fun!

Sage at "school." Sorting colors is a breeze but using a tweezers to do it adds a challenge. Even this activity brings out Sage's personality. He likes to tease me and he purposely mixes up the colors and then he laughs about it like he is the funniest person in the world. :)

I love the intensity of his work. He is so absorbed in what he is doing. I just want to hug him.

 It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

 My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid.
