Summer 2018

It's been so long I almost forgot how to blog. But as with everything else we're trying to get back into the swing of things so I'm here and I'm trying to catch up. In short, we had a wonderful summer. Better than wonderful, actually, if that's even possible. There is no better place for three little boys than running barefoot along the lakefront with all their cousins. Even after spending 18 years at the cabin I still pinch myself. I still can't get over it. It's still just as magical as it ever has been....maybe even more so. It gets better every year. That must be part of the cabin magic promise. The boys fished. And swam. And ran. And caught turtles. And kayaked. And went tubing. And made s'mores. And played board games. And had a boat parade. And did just about everything else imaginable. It's almost painful to write about because I miss it so much. It's pushing 100 degrees here with no end in sight and it's so humid it feels like you have to push away the air just to move. So, we're really missing the dreamy Minnesota weather and all the family that is gathering and carrying on while we're here. God has a plan....and that's a post for later. In the meantime we're here and school started last week and soccer and AWANA are in full swing and I'm still longing for more summer...more peace...more Minnesota and more love and family.  Here's a really short recap of our summer days.


The boys weren't big enough to wake surf but they wanted to try. My amazing husband figured out he can surf with them on board as well. :)

Lollypop tree planting!

We got Sage a small kayak so he could keep up with the older kids. This 6 footer was perfect for him and he was able to be so much more independent on the water. What a perfect summer...a little boy and his boat. 

Aiden spent his summer catching turtles. He caught 28 in all. None of them came home with us. ;)

Apple Creek

 A new year, a new orchard. This year we tried out Apple Creek Orchard and it was a really pretty place. We picked apples, took a hay ride, and the boys had fun with the apple slinger. We were joined by Tom's parents and it feels so good to have them now living close by instead of far away.

Almost to the finish line.

 It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

 My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid. If Cade is crying, I know he is actually hurt because he never cries ove...
