Christmas Merriment

Our Elf has been busy. He's roasted marshmallows and left s'more ingredients for the boys. That naughty Elf also tee-peed our tree and painted Tom's toe nails. Tonight Tom went to tuck the boys into bed and discovered that Sage and Cade we wearing two layers of soaking wet socks. Evidently Aiden convinced them this was necessary so that they wouldn't wake up with painted toenails. Sage was so horrified that Tom had painted toenails that he even refused to look at them. HAHA. Anyway, Jack Jingle is much more behaved tonight and is putting on a nice Christmas concert for some friends.

Last night we got pizza and drove to Maple Grove to see a nativity light display. The nativity light display was a complete dud. I normally would never say such a thing about the Nativity, but the "display" consisted of a VERY simplified version of the birth of Jesus written on a few signs. I'm kind of shocked this kind of think was advertised. So, we drove 45 minutes one way to see some signs. We did drive around and see more lights and it was good just to be out of the house. The boys put together Lego Christmas trees earlier today and it was the first time Cade was able to put together Legos by himself with just some help with the directions. We watched The Nativity Story and then made some more bird seed wreaths. I cut orders off once we got near the 80 mark. So in the next couple days the boys and I have more than 50 wreaths left to make. They are so excited and I am too...kind of. It's a lot of work although the boys can do most of it. They are donating some of their proceeds this year and the generosity of their sweet hearts is humbling. We know of a family at our old church who has an adopted daughter with a very serious seizure disorder. They have done everything under the sun for her, but she can never be left unattended even though she's 11 because a seizure can happen at any time. They want to get her a medical alert dog. Their portion of the payment is 17,000 dollars and they need money in hand to be on the wait list which is 2 years. My boys are so excited to be able to help in this way.

That's all for tonight!

Apple Creek

A new year, a new orchard. This year we tried out Apple Creek Orchard and it was a really pretty place. We picked apples, took a hay ride, and the boys had fun with the apple slinger. We were joined by Tom's parents and it feels so good to have them now living close by instead of far away.

Almost to the finish line.

It's hard to believe that Aiden turns 18 in one week and walks through graduation in just one month. After more than a decade of homeschooling, 2 years of PSEO, and no less than one million moments that I'll treasure forever, my oldest will be an adult and graduated. Great things are ahead for my boy!

Happy Birthday, Cade!

My littlest is seven and it's hard  not to be sad. We couldn't be without him, and we're so glad he's ours.  At seven years old Cade loves to do what everyone else is doing. He will NOT play by himself, and maybe it's because he's used to having someone to entertain him all the time. He loves legos and soccer. He also loves to read. I am ALWAYS finding Cade trying to tackle reading a book he probably isn't quite ready for. Lately he's been trying to read The Hobbit. While he's able to read all the words, he just doesn't have the depth of understanding to read it independently quite yet. He LOVES Tom Sawyer so he was delighted to find an abridged version to read.  Cade makes up his own mind about things. He will NOT be bossed around. He holds his own, so I don't worry about his brothers pushing him over. Cade also won't be pushed over physically. He is one tough kid. If Cade is crying, I know he is actually hurt because he never cries ove...
