A Day in Review

For the sake of blogging more frequently, here is today's recap. Aiden set up a campsite. He made a fire and wanted to roast marshmallows. We didn't have any marshmallows since I'm trying to quit, but come to find out a campfire also goes nicely with Icebox cookies, of which I happen to keep a stash of dough in the freezer. It wouldn't be bedtime without icebox cookies and chamomile tea. :)  Aiden played outside today. He loves to track animals in the snow and "paint" the snow with water and food coloring. I think Sage was jealous. He watched Aiden out the window for quite awhile. Next year, my dear! Next year we'll all go out! I watched the news last night and they were counting down the days til Spring. 25 more days....

Cave Dwellers

Just in case you are reading this blog from a warm climate, I feel like I should remind you that it's still winter in Minnesota. Winter seems to be over staying it's welcome and we are going a little stir crazy. I'm convinced that Minnesota Moms are the most resourceful and creative moms in the country as we come up with endless ways to entertain our children and make something out of nothing all through the long winter.  Today I hauled out the mattress to the toddler bed thinking the boys could jump on it for awhile and then we could use it as a cozy reading place.  They had lots of fun jumping but then Aiden wanted to make a cave with it. Being the engineer that I am, I went straight to work and rigged up a cave the best I could using a sheet and fashioning a maze of sorts out of 3M sticky hooks and twine and piecing it here and there with clothes pins. I even added some Christmas lights for flare. However, the Cave wasn't made to withstan...

Sage & Penny

I was reminded this week that no matter what I do, kids choose their own attachment object. Aiden chose his brown puppy when he was just about Sage's age. When Sage was born Aiden gave him a little puppy similar to his own. We thought it would be sweet if both boys had a little puppy tucked in with them at night. However, Sage has never shown one little bit of interest in that puppy...much to Aiden's dismay. In the past couple weeks we have watched Sage fall in love with Penny, one of Aiden's "friends" (although not one he particularly cares about). Of course, Sage fell in love with the largest stuffed animal possible. We may have to buy a mini van just to haul Penny with us to the cabin this summer. The object of Sage's affection could certainly change. I had wanted to purchase something a tad smaller (in fact I think they even  sell a smaller version at IKEA), but Tom thinks it's just too cute. Sage loves to drag Penny around, kiss her, and snuggle her w...

Pool Party!

I will admit that this blog is a little neglected as of late. I've had good intentions of more frequent posts, but I am rarely sitting down at the computer to actually make those good intentions come to fruition. Sage is so, so busy....so is Aiden for that matter. Most of my email checking happens on my ipod while I'm laying in bed at night. So, until Sage can actually go more than 2 minutes without his curiosity getting the better of him and getting into trouble, my posts might not be a numerous as I'd like. I 'm going to try harder because I want sweet little Sage to have as many memories to look back on as Aiden, but this 2 kid thing is taking all my time. My hat goes off to all those with more than 2 children.  I remind myself that each of my kids is like 3 kids in 1...then I don't feel quite so inadequate. Hah! Anyway, today was a fun day!  My house shows it as I'm headed to bed not even caring that I'm tripping over toys, books, dirty clothes, and a ...

Happy Valentine's Day!

My two little boys are my Valentine's everyday, but it's fun to have a special day!I love Valentine's Day!  Nothing else goes on in the middle of winter so you might as well make the day special. Around here we wake up to a breakfast table full of Valentines...some from us, some from Grandmommy and Grandpa, and some sent by Pappy and Marme.  As you can see, Aiden put on his Peter Pan shirt as soon as he found it. Sage was mostly interested in the balloons and the treats although he did sit still long enough to read his Valentine's Day book. I'm hoping that Tom, my forever Valentine, gets home in time to eat heart shaped pizza with us. Aiden's Cubbie verse this week is on my mind today..... "He has loved us with an everlasting love." Jeremiah 31:3

Stay-cation.

Tom is home again for the week and I am going to be miserably lonely when he goes back to work on Monday. We have been spoiled to have him home so much and going back to normal is going to be hard. But, we'll enjoy it while it lasts! We haven't planned anything super exciting. We are having more of a "stay-cation" of sorts. Yesterday we took the boys to Underwater World at Mall of America. Aiden had been asking about Sharks and so it seemed like the best place to go on a Thursday afternoon. Thankfully the mall was quiet and we had Underwater World almost all to ourselves. Sage loved it too and we finished the day with dinner at Rainforest Cafe. Today we get to work on the house. I think painting, insulation, and a new door knob on the garage are on the "Honey-do" list. Sage doesn't have a cautious bone in his body. He was more than ready to touch and grab the starfish. It took some coaxing to get Aiden to touch anything. He was even appreh...

A warm morning!

We couldn't spend another day inside these 4 walls! After Sage woke up we got in the car and went to the Conservatory. It was warm, it looked like Summer in full bloom, the boys had fun being uncaged, and we even ran into Auntie Carol. What a wonderful morning! After we bottled up the warm climate Aiden begged for ice cream at our favorite place so we went there too and had lunch and ice cream. I got a little taste of what summer will be like today. We'll get to go places and dare I say even though I'll have a very active 1 1/2 year old on my hands, it's sure more fun than toting a newborn around. YAY! Most of the pictures are of the back of the boy's heads. They didn't want to give me the time of day. They were too happy running around! It was a little foggy inside the rain forest to get a good picture. The fish were the highlight of the morning and Aiden is anxiously waiting to be able to go to the zoo, not just the conservatory. Sage would hav...
