Fighting the Kangaroo

For several weeks the boys have been dutifully defending their territory and fighting the Kangaroo that has taken over our laundry room. I have chuckled several times over the silliness of the whole situation. For starters, Sage is honest to goodness a little bit scared of the Kangaroo that lives in the laundry room, even though I think he was the one who invented the mysterious Kangaroo. I truly think that something that started out as imaginary has now deeply rooted itself into the boys' beliefs because the battles rage on, the situation grows more complex, and the boys become more convinced. They discuss this imposter Kangaroo as if he really exists and I frequently hear, "Let's fight the Kangaroo!" The ridiculousness of the fact that they are fighting a Kangaroo, not a lion or a bear, but an animal without razor sharp teeth or a might roar, is not lost on me. When I hear their shrieks over the Kangaroo and when they come running upstairs with their weapons in han...

Shenanigans with Uncle Erik

The little boys and I spent last weekend at the cabin. It was extra special because Uncle Erik was visiting from Portland. Uncle Erik is always up for lots of silly fun like Mr. Potato Head, food fights (no joke) and a healthy amount of teasing. The Polar Vortex returned making a long winter feel even longer, so we didn't even step a toe outside let alone play on the lake. Pappy, Uncle Erik, and Aiden did venture out to see The Lego Movie and ever since coming home Sage has been saying, "I go ride on airplane with Uncle Erik." It's always sad to say an airport goodbye and we're looking forward to the next visit, hopefully soon! Project Life 2014 Week 9: Blue

This week's theme is Blue. Although it is open to interpretation, the theme focused on color. I say it every week, but I LOVE this theme. Aiden LOVES to play knights and I'm told that the blue guys are the bad guys. I wasn't able to capture many blue guys in the picture which leads me to believe that the good guys must have been winning. I think the blue guys had all been taken captive....or worse. :)  Sage LOVES to take blue baths....or any color, really. I don't think it's super healthy to sit in artificial die, so it's a treat when we do. Blue baths, green baths, both are refreshing. I have outlawed red baths because I think they are just too weird. Tom remembers taking colored baths as a kid and so it's something we do occasionally. The first time I had to call my mother-in-law to make sure the food coloring wouldn't stain the boys or the bath tub. And while the food coloring won't stain the bath tub, it will stain the carpet if you let a two...

Cabin Fever

On Sunday the boys were wrestling, which is a really normal thing for them. This time I happened to be in the basement witnessing all the wrestling and while watching I realized why both boys have had trips to Urgent Care for stitches on Daddy's clock. :) Boys will be boys, I suppose. Furthermore, the boys have Cabin Fever. Aiden couldn't understand why he was not allowed to jump from the couch to the cedar chest where the T.V. is mounted on the wall. He said, "But Mama, I have to jump! Where can I jump? There is nothing inside that I can jump on!" I had to explain to him that I didn't want his head going through the T.V. screen and that no jumping on the furniture was a really common rule in American households. Tonight Sage was jumping on our bed yelling "Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, no more monkeys jumping on the bed." Then he fell off our bed and his head hit the railing. Through his sobbing Sage was saying, "No more ME jumping on...

Project Life 2014 Week 8: Everyday Adventures

It seems like everyday adventures for this busy Mama include laundry, and meals, and laundry, and picking up tiny little pieces of Playmobile that get strung through the house and hurt so bad when you step on them. For Aiden and Sage everyday adventures are found in books, their latest dress up clothes, their latest game of chase, or falling down the stairs because your galoshes that you insist on wearing are too big. All of the above mentioned happened today. Along with a slew of other things like two trips to the grocery store, nursing a sick child back to health, encouraging a husband at work, cleaning up wet pants, putting to bed, putting to bed again, and now folding laundry, ironing, and the list goes on. The things that make up the days can get mundane, but there is a sweetness to them, if my attitude is right. These are the things that make up our life. And if I'm not too busy to catch them, in between the tasks there are moments with the boys I never want to forget. Ai...

Keep Calm and Mustache On

Grandmommy sent some fun things for Valentine's Day, as you can see in the pictures. My Aiden, my straight and narrow, by the book, serious, type A, rigid, first born son didn't think they were all that fun. Sage, our second born who is a little more silly and not quite the rule follower that Aiden is, was patient and fun loving enough to let me snap more than one picture. "Used Car Salesman" seems like the most appropriate caption. Seriously, can't you just feel how much he's hating this by his awful, forced cheese smile? Sage, my treat addict was willing to do just about anything to get to the lollypops he knew were hidden in the box.

U-S-A!

I love the Olympics!!!! I had planned to really do nothing else but watch every single minute of the Olympics this year. I love the figure skating, I LOVE the luge and bob sled races, I love the snow boarding and I love some of the skiing events. However, Tom has a project for work that needs to be mostly done by Monday and we didn't find out about this until Tuesday. And for some reason, I got dragged into helping him with the project every evening. :( So, I've seen almost none of the Olympics. I did see Sage Kotsenburg win the gold medal. And I suppose that if I had to choose one thing to see, I'm so glad I saw that moment. The fact that Sage Kotsenburg won the gold proves two things: 1) That Sage is not only a BOYS name (I have recently met many a Saige that are girls. Lame), but a manly boys name. Our Sage now shares his name with an NFL star and an Olympic Gold Medalist. Boom! and 2) Sage Kotsenburg was homeschooled proving that homeschooled kids are cool. Anyway, I...
